Grandparents Day & Book Parade

On Friday we held our annual Grandparents Day and Infants Book Parade.  We were blessed with a beautiful day and it was wonderful to see lots of grandparents taking the opportunity to visit our school.

Thank you to all our grandparents who came to Grandparents Day and made it a memorable day for the students. Grandparents have a special charm of their own and can play an important role in their grandchildren’s lives. Here are a few quotes from some 8year-olds that expresses this so well:
  1. When they take us for walks, they slow down past things like pretty leaves and caterpillars.
  2. They don't say, "Hurry up."
  3. When they read to us, they don't skip. They don't mind if we ask for the same story over again.
  4. Everybody should try to have a grandmother, especially if you don't have television, because they are the only grown ups who like to spend time with us.
  5. They know we should have snack-time before bedtime and they say prayers with us every time and kiss us even when we've acted bad.
A bit of wisdom out of the mouths of babes. They remind us of what children really look for and appreciate: our time, our undivided attention and affection. I enjoyed seeing the children’s faces today. They were so excited to have their parents and grandparents spend the morning with them and take an interest in their work. Thank you to the grandparents who ‘adopted’ some new grandchildren and took the time to talk to other children in the class whose grandparents couldn’t make it today. Thank you also to our Primary teachers who worked hard to prepare their classrooms and this morning’s wonderful drama, choir and uke performances.
