FAQs

When can we complete the application form?

The Application Forms will be sent to you via email by our Enrolments Team on the afternoon of the Open Day. Please look out for our email in your inbox from enrol@redfield.nsw.edu.au. You will have two weeks to complete and submit your application form before it is reviewed by our Enrolments team.

Do I need to attend the Montgrove College Open Day if I am interested in enrolling my son in Infants?

If you have a son starting school in Infants then please attend a Montgrove College Open Day to learn more about the Infants program they will attend should they be offered an enrolment. We do encourage you to attend the Wollemi College Open Day if you can so that you can see what the future of your son’s education will be like at our brother school.

What is the Age Cut-off for Kindergarten?

Students enrolling in Kindergarten must have turned 5 years by March 31 of the year that they are to start school.

Students transferring from other schools at any year level, with cut-off dates later than 31 March, may be required to repeat a grade.

If we enrol our boy in Kindergarten, will we need a separate application for Wollemi College from Year 2?

Boys attending Kindergarten automatically progress to Wollemi College in Year 2 and won’t be required to submit a separate application with Wollemi College. It will be considered a continued enrolment supported by an orientation and transition program for both students and parents in Term 4.

How many streams are there in each cohort?

In Kindergarten and Year 1, there are four streams in total, as these early years are co-educational. Two streams of girls will remain at Montgrove, and two streams of boys will transition to Wollemi in the primary years from Year 2 onwards.

Our cohort sizes are intentionally limited to two streams to preserve the quality and depth of our one-on-one Mentoring System. Every student is paired with a dedicated mentor; a member of staff who meets with the student fortnightly and with their parents each term. This structure allows us to provide truly personalised support, both academically and in character formation.

What are the chances of securing a place in Year 7?

Year 7 is our most competitive intake year, and places are limited. With only two classes per cohort, we do not add additional streams in High School. Once a year group is full in Primary, further applications are placed on a waitlist.

To give your daughter the best opportunity to secure a place, we strongly encourage families to consider enrolling from Kindergarten or early Primary. Early enrolment not only increases your chances of a confirmed place for High School but also allows your daughter to benefit from Montgrove’s formative character education from the beginning of her school journey.

Do you accept students from other faith backgrounds, and is Religious Education compulsory?

Yes, Montgrove College warmly welcomes families of all faith backgrounds, provided there is a shared alignment with our core values and approach to education. While we are an Independent Catholic school, we do not require students to be Catholic to enrol.

That said, Religious Education is a compulsory part of our curriculum for all students. Faith-based activities such as classroom instruction, school prayer, and weekly or daily Mass are integrated into school life and form an essential part of our identity and mission. Primary students attend Mass weekly, while Secondary students have the option to attend daily Mass or participate in silent reading.

While we welcome students of all faiths, it’s important that you, as parents, are comfortable with your child participating in these aspects of school life, as they are central to the formation and community experience we offer.

How does Montgrove support students with diverse learning needs, whether they need extra help or greater academic challenge?

From Kindergarten through to Year 6, the Learning Support Team uses a range of evidence-based programs to assist both the student and the classroom teacher.  In Secondary School, the Learning Support Coordinator works collaboratively with individual subject teachers to develop and implement Individualised Education Plans (IEPs).

There is also an Extension Program in Primary and Honours Program in Secondary.

Through regular assessments, teacher observations, and ongoing one-on-one mentoring, we are able to identify each student’s unique needs and strengths (academic or otherwise) and help them grow with purpose and confidence.
